In
the Northern Moldavia region, also called "Bucovina",
there are several 5-century old monasteries of an
exceptional beauty.
The
amazing sense of proportions, the art of the paintings
covering both inside and outside their walls as well as
the uniqueness of the colors used by the medieval artists
make these monasteries be a treasure of the whole world.
"Such paintings exist in no other country and can
only be found in one Romanian province, Northern Moldavia,
known as Bucovina" is said in the opening of the
volume issued by UNESCO about the art values of the
humanity.
"Putna",
"Sucevita", "Moldovita",
"Humor", "Dragomirna", "Neamt",
"Agapia", "Varatec", and, especially,
"Voronet" (which exterior paintings use
extensively an irreproducible color called "blue of
Voronet") are not only monasteries but also jewels of
the feudal architecture fortunately preserved until our
times. The geniality of these masterpieces would not be
complete without the natural environment (constituted of
mountains and hills) of a rare beauty they are situated
in.
