Due
to the central position of the Romanian Carpathians in the
country and to the natural landscape they feature, there
are numerous resorts everywhere in that area. The most
enjoyable and better known of all are, for sure, the
resorts situated in the region called "Valea Prahovei"
in the Southeast Carpathians, 120 km North of Bucharest.
This
area features a striking contrast between the steep and
rocky slope of the over 2,500-meter high mountains called
there Bucegi and the valley of the river Prahova which
crosses the mountain chain along a North- South axis. This
valley is the main way of communication between the
capital, Bucharest, and the very important city of Brasov
in Southeastern Transylvania.
The
unique landscape of Valea Prahovei hosts a series of
picturesque resorts the most famous of which being Predeal,
Busteni, and, especially, Sinaia also called "Pearl
of the Carpathians". All these together with Poiana
Brasov also named "Sun Clearing", situated some
30 km North of Valea Prahovei, offer the tourists a
magnificent environment in all seasons.
The
relatively mild climate due to the mountains sheltering
for the spas and the abundant snows, maintained from
October to March, make the area be very suitable for
winter sports. Tourists may find here ski slopes with
various degrees of difficulty, sleigh and bob sleigh
slopes, ski schools with specialty teachers, renting
points for equipment as well as cable transport facilities
such as funiculars, ski lifts and baby skis. During summer
many marked routes and an extended network of chalets
invite the tourists to take trips in the magnificent
environments and enjoy the rare views and the strongly
ionized air of the Bucegi Mountains.
A
lot of tourist accommodations, dining facilities, high
quality services, elegant atmosphere, folk festivals and
carnivals organized in the Prahova Valley make this area a
major attraction for any tourist.
